Sam Abu-Hamdan

Sam is currently serving as the president of Alcove9. Prior to starting Alcove9, Sam ran the Aerospace and Defense business unit at Tata Technologies in North America where he started there back in January 1997. During his stint at Tata Technologies, formerly known as INCAT, Sam occupied many roles starting as a senior consultant in the design and analysis field, then leading a team of PLM solution architects that defined processes and best practices for customers in the PLM and CAD/CAM areas. Since 2003 and up until he left Tata Technologies in 2011 he was primarily involved in expanding Tata Technologies aerospace and defense business in North America.

Sam received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Oklahoma State University.  Then he went on to earn his Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993 in the area of error detection and recovery in automated manufacturing assembly cells. After which he helped start a business in Detroit, Michigan designing and manufacturing mass air flow sensors for aftermarket, high performance vehicles. He was also involved in designing automotive products like electromechanical sensors for ABS brake modules, trailer brakes, and powertrain components.

Martin has over two decades of in-depth experience in the systems and software development business focused on specific solutions for engineering and manufacturing environments. These software solutions have been integration-centric and have included computer-aided design (CAD), product lifecycle management (PLM), enterprise content management (ECM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) electronic applications.

As the founder and president of the The vdR Group he has participated at all levels of the software business including product development, implementation, consulting and Intellectual Property (IP) licensing.

He has written for almost every industry magazine and has been a frequent speaker at numerous industry conferences.

Prior to founding The vdR Group in 1986, Martin spent several years in the defense industry working at the Department of Defense and Hughes Aircraft Company.  While at Hughes, he was nominated to the “Hughes Fellow” program.

His educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from California State University at Fullerton and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California.
